The B9 Energy Group comprises is a group of companies which share common shareholders. The Founding Directors are all still involved with the business.

In 1992 David and Norman Surplus teamed up with Ian Harvey, Michael Harper and Alan Harris to form B9 Energy with the clear purpose of developing wind farms in the Northern Ireland market.

B9 Energy joined forces with Renewable Energy Systems and completed its first wind farm “Rigged Hill” in December 1994. Over the next 12 years, 7 more wind farms were successfully developed and in 2006 B9 Energy took the strategic decision to shift its entrepreneurial effort from onshore wind to other emerging renewable energy technologies.

The Founding Directors now pursue their own carbon reduction and renewable energy development initiatives. Michael Harper heads up B9 Offshore, Ian Harvey concentrates on B9 Organic and David Surplus spends most of his time on B9 Shipping and B9 O&M. Alan Harris has retired to pursue his other business interest ReSoft Ltd and Norman Surplus has - literally - taken off in another direction. Read more here
